Leaky Roof? Maybe One Of These Places Is To Blame

Posted on

No one wants to come home from work one day to find a leaking roof and soggy floor, especially in the middle of winter. This can leave you wondering what you are going to do to fix the problem and how bad the damage really is. After all, you might not be able to see the true extent of what is going on beneath of the surface. Roof leaks can be a pain, especially when the temperatures outside are bitter cold and you need to get the area fixed. Here are some of the common places where a roof leak might have started.

Shingles

Older shingles can end up getting destroyed after a major wind, snow or ice storm. As the shingles get torn off the roof or chip away, the water from the snow melting will end up penetrating into your roof and leaking through to the inside of your home. What might have been a small crack, chip or hole can turn into something major in no time. After any major storm, you will want to look around for any shingles that might be missing, granules lying around your yard or otherwise obvious spots where the shingles are gone.

Gutters

Oftentimes, people end up ignoring their gutters in the fall. They don't think about them until there is a problem. However, all of the leaves falling off the trees in the fall end up clogging your gutters and creating a major mess. When the leaves block off the drain spout, they prevent rain water and melting snow from being able to drain out and away from your home properly. You need to go through and make sure your gutters are cleaned out at least every couple weeks in the fall.

Vents

It isn't all that uncommon for the area around the vents to end up peeling, cracking and chipping. When that happens, holes open up and allow rain and snow to seep in and get inside of your home. Even a small hole can cause a number of problems for your home. Go around your roof and check for any openings that might need to be sealed. Pay special attention to vents, sunroofs, chimney flues and other openings.

By paying attention to the things above, you can make sure your roof is taken care of and you don't have a bunch of water penetrating your home and causing a lot of damage. If you need help repairing your leaking roof, get in touch with a roofing company like All Slope Roofing Ltd.
